Image-Guided Breast Biopsy

To help determine the composition of a lump or other abnormality that has been detected in your breast, doctors will often request a sample of the cells from the abnormality to determine if it is cancerous or benign. Doctors often use ultrasound or a specially designed digital mammography machine that uses X-rays taken from two angles to assist in precisely targeting the lesion. This detailed view helps guide a needle to the precise point of the lesion for extraction of the cells. The cells are studied to determine if the lesion is cancerous or benign.

Image-guided breast biopsy services are provided in conjunction with Dr. Ann Marie Hugh at the Breast Health Center www.lancasterbreasthealth.com.
